Visiting the La Souterraine area from your hotel
Nearby, the monumental 13th-century Porte Saint-Jean and Porte du Puycharraud are impressive remnants of the ancient ramparts. Four kilometers from the historic center, the Tour de Bridiers, the keep of an ancient fortress surrounded by medieval gardens, is also well worth a visit. The site, the former seat of the viscounty, still boasts a 12th-century tower and elements of an earlier castle. The upper parts of the tower have been restored, offering an exceptional panorama from a glass floor. In August, the site hosts La Fresque Historique de Bridiers, a medieval show.
La Souterraine also offers a wide range of outdoor activities. The Etang du Cheix, in particular, is a popular spot for anglers, walkers and relaxation enthusiasts.
